About


This September, 30 organisational hackers and innovators will gather for 4 days in the beautiful Belgian countryside. Enspiral Org Academy is a unique training in future ways of working: ways that are more human, self-managing, non-hierarchical, agile and deliberately developmental.

WHY JOIN ENSPIRAL ORG ACADEMY?


Many of us know that “business as usual” in our organisations and workplaces is not sustainable anymore. We want to introduce new ways of working and learn to lead in a new paradigm way - but it’s difficult to find out how to do that.

Many have read the books - Reinventing Organisations by Fredric Laloux or Brave New Work by Aaron Dignan - but few have lived the experience. How do I build a team or company that is self-managing and non-hierarchical but doesn’t descend into chaos? How do I lead in a way that is more horizontal and less top-down?

Join us at this immersive training and retreat to learn new things, practice different patterns, meet fellow change-makers and change the way you work.

What we will cover

We’ve prepared a selection of facilitated training sessions to share what we’ve learned about some of the most difficult challenges of collaborative organisation:


Decision-making

protocols and practices for making quick, inclusive decisions, face-to-face and online

growing trust & psychological safety; effective communication & relational skills

shifting mindsets towards a new paradigm; designing orgs for wellbeing and development

identifying different group power dynamics to move beyond hidden hierarchies

When & Where?


We’re working and staying at Drongen Abbey, a peaceful location just 45 minutes train from the center of Brussels

You’ll arrive in the afternoon on Thursday September 5th, and finish after lunch on Sunday 8th.

Who is hosting the Academy?

You’ll be hosted by four Enspiral Members, each bringing years of lived experience in new ways of working.


Phoebe Tickell

Distributed governance nerd and organisational designer. Member at Enspiral, Coordination team at DGOV Foundation. She straddles the worlds of technology, organisations and people to design systems that self-organise.

She enjoys turning the theoretical into practice. She loves helping teams be bigger than the sum of their parts.She is a steward and trainer of the work Going Horizontal.

Richard D. Bartlett

Co-founder and Org Designer at The Hum. One of the co-founders of Loomio, a co-operative social enterprise building tools for collective decision-making. Co-author of Better Work Together and writer at RichDecibels.com.

He loves co-ownership, self-management, collaborative governance, and other ways of sneaking anarchism into respectable places.

Natalia Lombardo

Founder of the Tool Library. Co-owner of Loomio. Co-founder and Collaboration Coach at The Hum.

She helps groups to cultivate a collaborative culture through values-driven behavioral change. Her focus is the self in “self-organising": the beliefs, attitudes and behaviours each of us brings into any collective endeavour.

Ants Cabraal

A creative producer, writer and business owner who has helped many Enspiral initiatives start and grow since 2012. He serves as a director and advisor to several startups, and loves to get new ideas off the ground - including driving the creation of the Better Work Together book.

He's currently part of the Greater Than team.
